2016 Movie Challenge|Week 4|The Departed

the departedAs one of my goals for 2016 I am participating in a movie challenge to watch a different film each week for all 52 weeks of the year – each with a unique theme. Some will be films I have seen before, others will be new, and all of them will adhere as closely as possible to the week’s theme. I will review each of them here weekly and if you like, you can follow along with me on the challenge!  I have listed each week’s challenge at the end of this post. So pop yourself a bowl of popcorn and kick up your feet!

Week 4: A movie a friend recommended

My dad lent me the film ‘The Departed’ directed by Martin Scorsese. All I can say is wow. It is a bloody and suspenseful thriller from the start. There are good guys and bad guys. Good guys pretending to be bad guys and bad guys pretending to be good guys. Oh, and it revolves around the mob. Guns? Check. Amazing plot and characters? Check. Romance? Check. Love triangle? Check. Double crossing and spies? Check. Shock and awe? Check. All of the elements for a classic mobster movie are there.

Despite all the death and drama I really enjoyed this film. Although it follows the mobster movie mold there are enough surprises and so much fantastic acting that it more than holds it’s own in a field of greats. I would recommend the film to any Dicapro, Damon, Nicholson, Wahlberg or Scorsese fans. Or anyone who just enjoys a great story but doesn’t mind some blood.
