One of my goals for 2016 is to get back to my roots and read more books. As the great Frederick Douglass said, ‘Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.’ Books are a passion – nay, an obsession of mine and always have been. I grew up in the library and my parents fostered my love of reading and learning. With books I have lived a thousand lives, found myself absorbed in different worlds, and learned immensely more than I could have otherwise. I have a goal of reading 100 books this year, along with me!
Eight Hundred Grapes by Laura Dave is a gritty realistic look at a woman’s coming to terms with her own needs and wants in the world of her changing family and the circumstances surrounding her fiance. With the things she counts on as constants breaking down she tries to fix things, usually messing them up more. In the process she learns that what she wants isn’t necessarily what she needs, and what she needs isn’t necessarily what she wants. It is a honest, heart warming story that makes you think about what you may have settled for or what may really be right for you. Great novel!
