2016 Movie Challenge|Week 9|Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie

mystery scienceAs one of my goals for 2016 I am participating in a movie challenge to watch a different film each week for all 52 weeks of the year – each with a unique theme. Some will be films I have seen before, others will be new, and all of them will adhere as closely as possible to the week’s theme. I will review each of them here weekly and if you like, you can follow along with me on the challenge!  I have listed each week’s challenge at the end of this post. So pop yourself a bowl of popcorn and kick up your feet!

Week 9: A Movie Based on or Turned Into a TV Show

One of the quirky TV shows that I loved to watch growing up was ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000’ – a show that starred a human and some robots being tortured by being made to watch bad ‘B’ movies. All a part of a plot of several mad scientists to take over the world. In order to stay sane they comment or ‘riff’ throughout the entire film, their silhouettes shown talking and gesturing in a movie theater setting in the scene. The entire thing is hilarious and off beat. It aired for eleven seasons and finally they made a feature film- with an entire feature film in it. Genius! The film they are tortured with is This Island Earth, a fairly terrible film turned hilarious with their witty and well timed banter.

Love it!
