Finally I’m getting my act together and sharing moments from the trip in the Pacific Northwest that my friend Anna and I went on earlier this year. Since I have so many pictures and footage I’ll make this easier and break it up for a new post for a new day. Without further ado- Day 1! Bright and early on the morning of May 18th we were dropped off at the Kansas City airport to fly to Portland, Oregon. After a long delay at the Denver airport, we finally made it to Portland! As we landed it was raining- (a sign of things to come).
After a shuttle bus to the rental car place we had our cute little white Chevy Captiva Sport renal and were on our way down highway 5. Our destination: Crescent City, California. (Why we insisted on making these long treks without hotel stops in between I’ll never know). We were in spotty rain for awhile, but the day was beautiful- the land is so green, and the air is so breathable. Everything was picturesque, from the tall trees (even in the middle of the highway!) to the red barns with animals dotting the landscape, to the mountains, to the huge double rainbow that appeared out of nowhere.
Close to dusk we were approaching the California border. We got off highway 5 and took the 199 down to Crescent City. After we passed the border the trees started soaring above our heads, and the roads were windy as all get out. It was a road carved into the wild country- and I loved it! (Although if I had been prone to car sickness there would have been problems!) It was a long drive, and we were happy to finally make it to our hotel- the Best Western in Crescent City, CA. Our entire trip took up 344.2 miles. I nearly gave the evening shift employee at the front desk the biggest hug of his life, I was so happy to stop driving.
Regardless of the long drive, it was a great day full of wonderful memories. Many more great memories to come!
Coming soon- Day 2- Cresent City, CA/Redwood Forest
